The Great Bear Pub and Liquor Store is the place to be for great food, drinks, music, sports and a great party.

We offer entertainment six nights a week and feature all pay per view events on our 10 HD TV's.

Sunday night offers Open Mic at 9pm.

Monday is Open Mic with Jim Wetdog.

Tuesday is All in Poker with registration at 6:30 pm and poker at 7:00pm.

Wednesday is Music Bingo eve at 8pm.

Thursday's is Vegas Karaoke at 9:00pm with Marlene.

On Friday's bands take the stage at 9:30 pm.

Saturday's we have a Meat & Wine Draw from 4 - 6pm on the 2nd & 4th Saturday's on the month. We have Tipsy Karaoke of the 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month at 9pm.

The Great Bear Pub has 12 Sustainability Initiatives and aims to be BC's greenest pub.

1) Since March 2008 we have been a Ocean Wise certified pub ~ www.oceanwise.ca.

2) Since June 2008 we have been proud members of Wild Salmon Supporters working to ensure salmon farming in BC is safe for wild salmon, marine ecosystems, coastal communities and human health. www.salmonsupporters.com

3) With www.gefree.ca we launched a new food menu that contains eight menu items free of genetically modified food. Genetic engineering (GE) enables corporations to create plants, animals and micro-organisms by manipulating genes. The results are not found in nature and cannot be achieved by traditional cross-breeding techniques. As of March 2010 the Great Bear does not label GE Free menu offerings but still offers eight GE menu offerings.

4) The pub features BC wine and craft BC beers.

5) We are aiming to be 100% biodegradable and have biodegradable take out straws, take out containers, take out cutlery, garbage bags and sauce containers. We offer 10% off take out orders to those guests who bring their own rubbermaid containers. We have been using trans fat free cooking oil since 2007, offer non-bleached napkins and have a BC focused seasonal menu. Our biodegradable containers and straws are made from PLA corn and take approximately 18 months to biodegrade depending on composting conditions. Our PLA corn take out cutlery takes approximately two years to biodegrade depending on composting conditions.

6) We have completed the BC Hydro energy audit and implemented cooler strip curtains reducing our energy consumption

7) Although we are in the business of entertainment we do not promote an excessive intake of alcohol, offer more healthy food options and promote safe driving alternatives on our receipts and with team training.

8) In the spring, summer and fall we provide our waste vegetable oil to Doug Ross who uses it for his 100% green house gas neutral 1986 Mercedes Benz diesel sedan.

9) We added a new best of "electric scooter" and best "bike cruiser" category to our 3rd annual 2009 Show & Shine.

10) We feature local and organic wine, beer and spirits when ever possible.

11) We encourage our guests to quit smoking and live tobacco free. We will soon be raising tobacco prices in the liquor store (we stopped tobacco sales in the pub in 2007) to deter smokers.

12) We have a comprehensive front of house and back of house recycling program for all paper, plastic, metal & glass.

The Great Bear was nominated for the environment sustainability category at the 2009 Burnaby Board of Trade Excellence Awards. .
